1. What did you do in 2008 that you've never done before?
Not give a rip about whether the Oakland Raiders won or lost any or all of their games.

2. Did you keep your new years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
I didn't make any last year, and I won't be making any this year.

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
Not

4. Did anyone close to you die?
Yes.

5. What countries did you visit?
The vast bubble universes of my unconscious dreamscapes.

6. What would you like to have in 2009 that you lacked in 2008?
Hope and confidence that humankind will wise up.

7. What dates from 2008 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
The first Tuesday in November, because the republic gave birth to its political Frankenstein monster, which will drown all our children despite its apparent good intentions and will.

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Not getting fired for insubordination; loving my family.

9. What was your biggest failure?
Not being insubordinate enough. Not willing to risk it all like the Baptist proclaiming the coming of the Lord and the need for all of us to straighten up or die.

10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
Busted knee worse, right arm arthritis getting seriously painful.

11. What was the best thing you bought?
The music octavos for our Christmas Concert and Masses.

12. Whose behaviour merited celebration?
Archbishop Raymond Burke

13. Whose behaviour made you appalled and depressed?
Clerics unlike Burke

14. Where did most of your money go?
To my wife.

15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
My second grandson’s tracheal tube removal after two years; he’s forming sentences after just 3 months.

16. What song will always remind you of 2008?
In paradisum; sang a lot of funerals

a) happier or sadder?
Happier. I have an amazing wife and three grown daughters..

b) thinner or fatter? A tad fatter.



c) richer or poorer?
Haven’t a clue if it’s about income. Richer for living and sharing life.

18. What do you wish you'd done more of?
Praying.

19. What do you wish you'd done less of?
Arguing with idiots, especially the one in my mirror.

20. How will you be spending Christmas?
In church mostly. Otherwise sleeping.

22. Did you fall in love in 2008?
I stumbled happily through my 34th year of marital bliss with my true love.

23. How many one-night stands?
Nope. Nor multiple night stands.

24. What was your favourite TV program?
Survivor. A 57 year old teacher with scruples actually won.

25. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
I don’t hate him, but John Edwards has out Tom Cruised Tom Cruise.

26. What was the best book you read?
BAD CATHOLICS GUIDE TO WINE, WHISKEY AND SONG

27. What was your greatest musical discovery?
Guitarist Tommy Emmanuel

28. What did you want and get?
Big Lebowski collector dolls: the Dude and Walter.

29. What did you want and not get?
A regularly scheduled Novus Ordo Mass sung in Latin, priest facing ad Deum.

30. What was your favourite film of this year?
The Dark Knight for its uncompromising vision; closely followed by Benjamin Button and Ironman.

31. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
57. Can’t remember. Like it that way.

32. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
Hearing an excellent choir performing my setting of “Anima Christi.”

33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2008?
Don’t go out in public with my fly open.

34. What kept you sane?
Laughter.

35. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
Helen Mirren

36. What political issue stirred you the most?
Bush’s retreat from his duties as CEO of the country. The lack of guts most legislators at local, state and federal levels exhibit constantly; The lack of scrutiny of Barack Obama’s whole life and career by the Fourth Estate.

37. Who did you miss?
Tim Russert

38. Who was the best new person you met?
A visiting missionary priest from the Phillipines.

39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2008.
Don’t ever fear to tell the truth how you see it to anybody who cares to hear your version.
