Compline at Chapel of the Cross, Chapel Hill, NC—10.24.2010

Late. Again. Yes, it's being back-dated.

Compline at Chapel of the Cross.

We've been using the Order for Compline, as set by David Hurd.

Here are our little additions:

O Lord, the maker of all thing (Anon.; from the Sixteenth Century Anthem Book)
Psalms 4/31 (chanted to Tone 8)
Hymn: To you before the close of day (TE LUCIS ANTE TERMINUM, Mode 8)
Lord's Prayer (Robert Stone)
Nunc Dimittis (fauxbourdon, H. Willan)
Salve Regina (Marian antiphon right after the Dismissal)
Ave Maria (Cornelius Verdonck)
Organ improvisation by the abfab Van Quinn on Vaughn-Williams' "O How Amiable"

We haven't done the Verdonck in ages. It was nice to pull that one out again.

Van wasn't feeling very well, so he asked a few of us to share the cantoring duties, including: Travis Kephart, Danny Kumar, Charlotte Runde, Ali Carnes, me (Lyn Francisco), and Johnny Reis. We received plenty of positive feedback about sharing the cantoring duties. It was a nice change.

Van is seeking suggestions for the post-Compline organ improvisations. Feel free to send him your suggestions via the comm box below (or if you're reading this in Facebook, leave a comment). Even better, if you're Facebook friends with Van, either PM him or write on his wall your suggestions. :)
