So much for getting this list out on time. Ah well. Better late than never. :P
My first list is from the 7:45 a.m. Mass at Immaculate Conception Church. Any numbers you see come out of GIA's Gather Comprehensive 1994 (green cover). My friend, Jane L., was behind the console.
Sunday 7.45 am Mass: Pentecost Sunday Mass during the Day
Prelude: Adagio, Choral Varié from Variations on Veni Creator (M. Duruflé)
Opening Hymn: 465, Come down, O love divine (DOWN AMPNEY)
Gloria: Chant Mass, arr. by J. Lynch, using the words from the new Roman Missal
Psalm: 104, Psalm 104 (P. Lisicky)
Sequence Hymn: 464, Holy Spirit, Lord Divine (Mode I, chanted a cappella)
Gospel Acclamation: 263 (Hughes Alleluia in C)
Offertory: 461, O Holy Spirit, by whose breath (VENI CREATOR SPIRITUS)
Sanctus, Memorial Acclamation: Chant Mass, arr. by J. Lynch, using the words from the new Roman Missal
Amen: Simple, three-note Amen (G-(G-A))
Agnus Dei: 312, Agnus Dei XVIII (in Latin)
Communion Motet: O Lord, Give Your Holy Spirit (based on Tallis; arr. G. St. Clair)
Recessional: 469, Come, Holy Ghost (LAMBILLOTTE)
Postlude: Komm Gott, Schöpfer, Heiliger Geist (BWV 667, J. S. Bach)
We started praying the Nicene Creed according to the new Translation in Mass. They pasted it on the inside cover of the hymnal, which is a good thing. I'm glad they're introducing the new Mass texts to us gradually like this so that by the time it's fully implemented Advent 2011 (last Sunday in November), everyone will be used to it.
St. Joseph's Episcopal Church where I played the usual 10.30 am service. As usual, the numbers are out of The Hymnal 1982.
Day of Pentecost: Holy Eucharist Rite II
Prelude: Komm, Heiliger Geist, Herr Gott (BuxWV 199, Dietrich Buxtehude)
Processional: 225, Hail thee, festival day! (SALVE FESTA DIES)
Psalm: Psalm 104 (Simplified Anglican Chant)
Sequence Hymn: 228, Holy Spirit, font of light (WEBBE)
Offertory Anthem: Go Ye into all the World (E. Butler)
Sanctus: S-125, Community Mass (Proulx)
Lord's Prayer: chanted (S-119 in Hymnal 1982)
Fraction Anthem: S-154, New Plainsong (Hurd)
Communion: 505, O Spirit of Life, O Spirit of God (O HEILIGER GEIST)
Recessional: 516, Come down, O Love divine (DOWN AMPNEY)
Postlude: Adagio-Allegro moderato, Voluntary in D Major (Op. 6, No. 6; J. Stanley)
I played the 4.00 pm service for Carol Woods which was organised by the Chapel of the Cross. It is always a pleasure playing for these folks, and many came up to me after the service to thank me for my music. They'll be hearing more of me since I'll be playing summer services there.
The music list:
Day of Pentecost: Holy Eucharist Rite I
Prelude: Komm, heiliger Geist, Herre Gott (A. Armsdorf)
Processional: 531, O Spirit of the living God (MELCOMBE)
Psalm: Psalm 104 (recited)
Offertory: 516, Come down, O Love divine (DOWN AMPNEY)
Communion: Komm, Heiliger Geist, Herr Gott (BuxWV 199, Dietrich Buxtehude)
Recessional: 511, Holy Spirit, ever living (ABBOT'S LEIGH)
Postlude: Komm, heiliger Geist, Herre Gott (F.W. Zachau)
Admittedly: the Buxtehude didn't really work all that well on the piano, but I managed. Somehow...
For the next couple of months, I'll be bouncing between Carol Woods and Chapel of the Cross, so I'll be having my Chapel Hill fix. I will try to post these lists in a more timely fashion. So don't be surprised if I post my new lists tomorrow evening. :)
Musings and such from an Organic Chemist who also occupies an organ bench when she's not at the lab bench.

Rebecca Telford-Marx, violin
Here's a concert from another graduating high school senior. Rebecca Telford-Marx, who was valedictorian of her class from Jordan High School, gave her Senior Recital at First Presbyterian Church in Durham.
Since I helped produce the flyer that contains her program, I'll just paste it here as a jpg file for your enjoyment. Just click on the picture to enlarge.
Oh, and by the way: she played the Bach entirely by memory.

A Sacred Concert
I am behind again, but I've wanted to post this list for a while.
On June 5, I went to a most delightful concert presented by the Junior Choir at the Chapel of the Cross. Under the direction of Dr. Van Quinn, the choir presented the favourite pieces from their repertoire and ended with what's become a tradition at these Junior Choir concerts: a medley of songs from Andrew Lloyd Webber's Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.
-----
PROGRAM
"Praise ye the Lord" – Jean-Philippe Rameau (1683–1764)
"Ave Maria" – Johann Sebastian Bach (1685–1750), arr. Jean-Ashworth Bartle
"God so loved the world" – Joel Martinson (b. 1960)
"Our hearts be joyful" – Bach (Mein glaubiges Herze from Cantata No. 68, arr. John T. Burke)
"Lift thine eyes" (from Elijah) – Felix Mendelssohn (1809–1847)
Soloists: Emma Lo, Emily Morris, Annie Poole, Maggie Poole
Note: this was the piece these four graduating high school seniors chose for their special piece. They also sung it at the 9:00 am service that morning.
"O clap your hands together" – François Couperin (1668–1733)
Hymn: "Let All Mortal Flesh Keep Silence" (PICARDY)
Note: At Chapel of the Cross, they do a version of it that has the most exquisite descant. I'm not sure who wrote it, though. For this one, they invited the audience to sing it with the Junior Choir. The soprano descant was sung on the last verse.
"Sound the Trumpet" – Henry Purcell (1659–1695)
"The Father's Love" – Simon Lole (b. 1957)
"Litany to Mary" – Simon Lindley (b. 1948)
"Fidelia omnia mandate ejus" – Giovanni Battista Pergolesi (1710–1763), arr. Tom Shelton
Emma Lo, violin
"Panis angelicus" – César Franck (1822–1890), arr. Howard Cable
"Tomorrow shall be my dancing day" – English carol arr. by John Rutter (b. 1945)
A Medley from Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat – Andrew Lloyd Webber (b. 1948)
- "Jacob and Sons"
- "Any dream will do"
- "One more angel in heaven"
- "Song of the King"
- "Close every door"
- "Benjamin Calypso"
- "Go, go, go, Joseph"
Encore: "The Lord bless you and keep you" – Rutter
-----
They did very well, and the choir received a standing ovation. The quartet who sung the Mendelssohn piece sounded wonderful, and it was a great farewell piece for them. And yes, all but the Lloyd Webber medley were sung in church by the Junior Choir.

For the next couple of months, I'll be bouncing between Carol Woods and Chapel of the Cross, so I'll be having my Chapel Hill fix. I will try to post these lists in a more timely fashion. So don't be surprised if I post my new lists tomorrow evening. :)

Oops. I did it again. :(
I'm neglecting my blog once again. I do have music lists from last Sunday and a concert program from a very talented soon-to-be-a-college-freshman violinist.
They'll be posted here. I don't think I'll bother back-dating them. Read them at your leisure. If you wish.
I've totally neglected my LJ page as well. I'll think of a post to toss up there. It might very well be Harry Potter-related.
Speaking of Harry Potter: I tried checking if I could buy tickets for any midnight showing in this area, but I've come up empty. If you're in the Triangle area (NC), do you know of any outlets that have started selling tickets for the final installment of Deathly Hallows Part 2?
Also speaking of Harry Potter: the Secrets of Harry Potter team have recorded their special Father's Day episode. It's being edited and should be ready for posting by Father's Day. Our next episode will be a Creatures Part Two: whatever creatures Fr. Roderick didn't discuss way back in Episode 7 (or whatever episode it was) we'll be discussing in Episode 69. Lots of great plans in store for SHP. So not to worry; we haven't podfaded. :)
