3 January 2010: Epiphany

Though I think the Cornelius piece was super last week, this week was even better! This week, a SATB quartet sang the “choral” part, which was a lot easier for me to sing over. It was an absolute delight to sing with them, and I’d repeat the experience anytime.

3 January 2010, 11am
Epiphany
St Jude’s Parish & Shrine, Vancouver, BC, Canada
Tyler Mitchell baritone
Carolyn Sinclair soprano
Marla Mayson alto
Steven Bélanger tenor
Peter Alexander bass
Michael Jarvis organ
  • Ordo missae: Missa super “Dixit Maria” (Hans Leo Haßler, 1564–1612)
  • Entrance: CBWII 460 The First Nowell (alt. refrain by Healey Willan, 1880–1968)
  • Psalm 72: BFW 40: Epiphany – ℟ “All the nations will come to serve him.”
  • Offertory anthem: Three kings from Persian lands afar (Peter Cornelius, accompanied by Wie schön leuchtet der Morgenstern, translated to English by Philipp Nicolai)
  • Communion motet: Cantate domino a 4 (Haßler)
Michael tastefully shooed the congregation with a French Noël, as I recall.
